What they do

Urban planners develop plans and programs for the use of land. They use planning to create communities, accommodate growth, or revitalize physical facilities in towns, cities, counties, and metropolitan areas.

Skills & Qualifications needed

  • Awareness of legal regulations, science, and data on urban planning

  • Usage of specialized software

  • Analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Public speaking skills

  • Communication and teamwork

  • Usually a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as economics, geography, political science, environmental design, etc.

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited urban or regional planning program

    • Meet with public officials, developers and the public to discuss urban planning

    • Gather and analyse scientific research and market data

    • Conduct field investigations of urban areas

    • Present or give advice on proposals on urban planning

  • 17,000 HKD to 35,000 HKD (median: 34,000 HKD)
